Advent can be filled with worry about finding the perfect Christmas gifts. Deep down we want people in our lives to know they are special and that we love them. But sometimes we overlook the greatest gift of all… our very presence. Our spiritual ancestors were also worried — often about survival in the midst of political occupation. And the response of the scriptures is “the Holy Living One is with you.” Like a shepherd who never leaves the flock, we are held close. This season, we are invited to be the gift of presence for our loved ones, for our communities, for those who need it most. Join us this Advent, beginning on December 3rd.
Since shortly after our beginning, BUCC has been providing food for food-insecure Fayette County students to take home from school. Many students have come to rely on it. Even though our volunteers pick up the food, pack the bags, and deliver them to the schools, there's a cost to purchase the food and supplies. So we're asking for your help. A donation of $52 will allow us to provide a backpack full of food to one student for an entire school year.
Leaves make great mulch and compost, and we'll use the pumpkins in our growing food forest to feed the critters looking for food during the colder weather. Just place them next to the garage shed and we'll take them from there. We'll also take that cardboard off your hands. After you've flattened it, just put it in one of the recycling containers next to the parking lot.
As the weather gets cooler in Central Kentucky, the need for warm clothes becomes more pressing. If you have an unused jacket or coat, gloves, or a scarf that is still in pretty good condition, bring it in and drop it in the big blue barrel. You can also bring in new items like underwear and socks. We'll distribute the items to organizations and agencies that ensure the folks who need them will get them. (Blankets are a great item too!)
As we are witness to a humanitarian horror in people’s lives, BE A LION steps out of the Jungle for Regis and Mimi to give the gift of the value of the arts to any child torn from their lives. A message of hope and inspiration, a coping tool, food for the mind, who knows, maybe a smile, will be found. Be A Lion believes in the power of the arts in a life of wellness, development, and healing. Producer Tuska, writer and songwriter Dave Wilson and Jim Henson’s cartoonist, Guy Gilchrist bring you this message of hope and inspiration. BUCC is proud and honored to be a part of this beautiful work of healing.

We believe we are charged to be advocates for the voiceless, the powerless, and the unable.
We believe there are few things more important to our future than clean air and water.
When Kentucky was declared a state in 1792, more than twenty tribes belonged to the land.
We are proud to be designated as an Open and Affirming Congregation.

We believe women have always had a crucial role in God's plan of action.
