Sunday Gathering

-PRELUDE-
“It Is Well With My Soul” – arr. P. Hamm
Brenda Gardiner
-ACKNOWLEDGEMENT-
We acknowledge that the place where we are gathered today is the ancient and ancestral homeland of more than twenty Indigenous tribes. We mourn the loss of their lives, livelihoods, homes, and cultures, and acknowledge the legacy of violence against them.
We acknowledge that the space where we worship today was established and built by those whose Black ancestors were also abused and mistreated - some even bought and sold as enslaved people right here in our city.
We acknowledge the women who’ve faced unfair treatment and misogyny throughout the ages and we acknowledge those who identify as LGBTQ or other who’ve been mistreated and misunderstood.
We acknowledge our role and responsibility as professed followers of Christ to stand for and alongside all of these and others who have been and continue to be oppressed.
-SINGING TOGETHER-
"For All the Children”
GOD, WE GATHER AS YOUR PEOPLE
TO RAISE OUR SONG ABOVE,
AND WE DARE TO CLAIM THE PROMISE OF YOUR LOVE.
THOUGH THE DAY MAY NOT YET BE HERE
WE TRUST IT SOON WILL BE,
WHEN YOUR CHILDREN WILL FREE.
O, MAY OUR HEARTS AND MINDS BE OPENED,
FLING THE CHURCH DOORS OPEN WIDE.
MAY THERE BE ROOM ENOUGH FOR EVERYONE INSIDE.
FOR IN GOD, THERE IS A WELCOME,
IN GOD WE ALL BELONG.
MAY THAT WELCOME BE OUR SONG.

-CALL TO WORSHIP-
Some of us are exhausted.
WE COME TO REST.
Some of us are curious about Jesus.
WE COME TO LEARN.
Some of us are hungry;
WE COME TO BE FED.
Some of us are disoriented.
WE COME TO PRAY.
Some of us are broken
WE COME TO BE HEALED.
We gather this morning to be touched by the Holy.
TEACH US, FEED US, HEAR US, HEAL US.
GRANT US YOUR PEACE AS WE JOIN TOGETHER IN WORSHIP.
-OPENING PRAYER-
-SINGING TOGETHER-
“Come and Find the Quiet Center”
COME AND FIND THE QUIET CENTER
IN THE CROWDED LIFE WE LEAD,
FIND THE ROOM FOR HOPE TO ENTER,
FIND THE FRAME WHERE WE ARE FREED:
CLEAR THE CHAOS AND THE CLUTTER,
CLEAR OUR EYES, THAT WE CAN SEE
ALL THE THINGS THAT REALLY MATTER,
BE AT PEACE, AND SIMPLY BE.
SILENCE IS A FRIEND WHO CLAIMS US,
COOLS THE HEAT AND SLOWS THE PACE;
GOD IT IS WHO SPEAKS AND NAMES US,
KNOWS OUR BEING, FACE TO FACE,
MAKING SPACE WITHIN OUR THINKING,
LIFTING SHADES TO SHOW THE SUN,
RAISING COURAGE WHEN WE'RE SHRINKING,
FINDING SCOPE FOR FAITH BEGUN.
IN THE SPIRIT LET US TRAVEL,
OPEN TO EACH OTHER'S PAIN,
LET OUR LOVES AND FEARS UNRAVEL,
CELEBRATE THE SPACE WE GAIN:
THERE'S A PLACE FOR DEEPEST DREAMING,
THERE'S A TIME FOR HEART TO CARE,
IN THE SPIRIT'S LIVELY SCHEMING
THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM TO SPARE!
-SCRIPTURE-
Mark 6: 30-32 (NLT)
The apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and told him all they had done and taught. Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.
So they left by boat for a quiet place, where they could be alone.
-THE MESSAGE-

SHARE YOUR JOYS, AND BRING YOUR TEARS.
STRENGTH AND HOPE FOUND AT THE TABLE, THIS TABLE;
WELCOME HERE, TO THE TABLE OF LOVE.
GOD IS LOVE; LOVE IS CREATING
SOMETHING NEW, RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW.
WE’RE CHILDREN OF GOD, HERE AT THE TABLE, THIS TABLE;
WELCOME HERE, TO THE TABLE OF LOVE.
-SHARING AROUND THE TABLE-
-COMMUNION-
“In the Holy Presence” – L. Smith
-OFFERING-
-THANKS TO THOSE WHO SERVE-
-ANNOUNCEMENTS-
-INVITATION TO RESPOND-
-SINGING TOGETHER-
“There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy”
THERE'S A WIDENESS IN GOD'S MERCY,
LIKE THE WIDENESS OF THE SEA;
THERE'S A KINDNESS IN GOD'S JUSTICE,
WHICH IS MORE THAN LIBERTY.
THERE IS NO PLACE WHERE EARTHLY SORROWS
ARE MORE FELT THAN IN GOD'S HEAVEN;
THERE'S NO PLACE WHERE EARTHLY FAILINGS
HAVE SUCH KINDLY JUDGMENT GIVEN.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD IS BROADER
THAN THE MEASURES OF OUR MINDS;
AND THE HEART OF THE ETERNAL
IS MOST WONDERFULLY KIND.
IF OUR LOVE WERE BUT MORE FAITHFUL,
WE WOULD GLADLY TRUST GOD'S WORD,
AND OUR LIVES WOULD SHOW THANKSGIVING
FOR THE GOODNESS OF OUR GOD.
